Have Your Own “Second Life” With Satellite Internet

These days, people spend a lot of their time on a computer. Whether you are at the office working in front of your desktop computer or lounging on the couch surfing the web while you watch television, chances are that you spend a good part of your day connected to the Internet. And why not? There is so much that one can do with the Internet these days, the possibilities seem to be endless. A new movement that is taking over the web is living out a virtual life.

Now with more and more people gaining access to high speed Internet with satellite broadband, there is an even wider variety of people using these kinds of websites. Before when high speed Internet was only available in limited areas through cable and DSL connections, only a certain number of people had the ability to use websites such as these that require a high speed connection in order to function properly. Satellite Internet gave the rest of the country the opportunity to participate in such activities because satellite broadband is available anywhere.

There are a lot of virtual identities that people are trying out. On Facebook alone, there exists a multitude of virtual worlds. One, called Pet Society, allows the user to create an entire world for a virtual pet. In this world, the owner can shop for clothes, furniture, food, and even participate in activities using their virtual pet. Another application on Facebook, called Farmville, allows the user to work on his or her own virtual farm. The farm has crops and animals to take care of. On each of these applications you can interact with other Facebook friends who are also users by sending gifts and visiting one another. This all happens virtually of course.

One of the most famous virtual life websites is a site called “Second Life.” This is an amazingly real virtual world where a person can do pretty much anything that they dream up. Creating an account is free. You create your own “avatar” that can look like you or completely different, it’s up to you to decide. It’s also your decision how you want to live out your virtual life. You can go on vacation, go scuba diving, or you can even go to work. You can buy and sell property on Second Life. Artists can even create artwork to be bought and sold in galleries for your virtual home. Second Life has so many real life opportunities that it often becomes confusing when discussing it. It can even seem like real life to its users. People tend to enjoy this kind of activity because it allows them to live out a life that they are unable to live out in real life.

However, living out a virtual existence is not for everyone. For those considering trying out one of these sites or programs, remember to use them with caution. With the amount of time that people are using their satellite Internet these days it’s not hard to imagine becoming even more hooked in once your living your dream life online. Playing pretend can be a great time, but don’t forget that there is a real world out there too, and it’s benefits will be even more rewarding than your Second Life.

Hughes internet can keep you connected to your Second Life. With a high speed satellite broadband connection you won’t have to worry about missing out on the fun.

Second Life states that Satellite Internet is not supported by their services. They claim that the time required to send and recieve information between your computer and their servers is not fast enough, and in some cases, this can even leave your Second Life experience near unusable.

If this has changed recently, the I would certainly love to know the details as my interenet service provider just switched to a new “Better” service, and unfortunatly, no longer reaches my house. This has left me stuck with dial up, and Second Life is near unusable with dial up internet!
