Highspeed Internet Connectivity

Widespread use of computers and the internet has fueled the demand for high speed internet connectivity in UK. Broadband which splits the telephone line to provide both voice and data is a convenient system which received consumer acceptance without reservations. The earlier method of dial-up system has become obsolete. Of course it was a cheaper option, but inability to use telephone while accessing internet and the slow speed with which it was working were handicaps that made it unacceptable to consumers when working life became hectic. In the contemporary socio-economic scenario, the consumers prefer an expensive faster service to a cheaper but sluggish one. They do understand the futility of penny wise pound foolish attitude.
The UK broadband market is now in a fast developing stage. In the beginning of 2010, nearly 20 percent of the population are able to access high speed internet connections. The country has unveiled an ambitious plan to provide the entire population with broadband connections at a modest 2 Mbps speed. Earnestness with which the plan is being implemented progressively is admirable. Equally appreciable trend is that the new technology involving fibre optic cables will be the medium to avail broadband in future. The existing ADSL technology will be gradually replaced by the new system. It is estimated that nearly 4 million households in UK will be connected by the end of 2010. Experts are of the opinion that the country has to go a long way in making broadband availability throughout. But there is a positive side in this context. The UK citizens are now able to get broadband connections at the most economical rates which are cheapest options than in other parts of the world.
It is now a highly competitive environment that prevails in the broadband service market. More and more service providers have entered the scene with various plans to woo the consumers. Both wired and wireless broadband are offered. Along with the growth and development of fixed line telephony, mobile phones are expanding their customer base with unprecedented speed and magnitude. The reason for the increasing demands for mobile broadband is therefore obvious. Broadband connectivity through high speed cable modems are widely provided for landline users. But demands for wireless broadband connectivity to computers in areas where cable is not available are also increasing. There are many modes of broadband services being developed to cater diverse requirements, but such new systems are yet to attain popularity.
As already mentioned there are innumerable service providers who offer high speed broadband to consumers. But the problem is that the speed of the system may vary depending on the quality and mode of service provided by the individual agencies, as well as the package or plan that is offered. It is therefore necessary for the consumers to exercise caution while choosing a particular package which is at times very confusing and beyond perception. In this context the consumers are advised to visit websites which explain and illustrate various plans and packages for the benefit of the prospective users. It is also better to make detailed enquiries about the service providers before signing a contract. Consumers should know that they will have to bear additional and avoidable expenses in case they want to terminate the contract with one agency and to avail the services of another one. Cost of modem and installation charges will have to be incurred once again.
